Bingara Sports Awards nominations open

November 16, 2017

The Bingara Sports Awards for 2017 are open for nominations with categories for Sub Junior, Junior, Senior, Sporting Team, Senior Sportsperson of the Year and a new category for Veteran Sportsperson of the Year being added to the program.

Sub-Junior awards are for children who attended a primary school during 2017. The Junior section is generally for older Children (18 years and under as at the 1st December).

Seniors sporting persons qualification is for any adult not eligible for the Junior sections or the veterans sections. The veterans will be eligible if they are 50 years or older as at the 1st December).

The committee have managed to recover the original Veterans trophy from past awards and are very keen to promote this section to showcase the many excellent senior competitors who still actively compete in an array of sports across the district.

The most popular section from last year’s awards was the Services to Sport awards where individuals who work tirelessly to deliver sporting competitions, facilities, fundraising, administration, refereeing, coaching and mentoring can be recognised.

Without these precious individuals, sport in the local district, sport could not function.

The individual Bingara Sportsperson of the year can awarded to the winner from any individual section which will this year also include the veterans Section.

Last Year’s winner, Brooke McKinnon, was successful after qualifying through the sub-junior categories.

The Awards will be hosted again by the Bingara Sporting Club and a dinner presentation is planned for Friday December 8.

Co-Sponsors, Gwydir Shire Council, will again be supporting this year’s Sports Awards.

Nominations Close 5.00pm Thursday 30th November. For more information on the awards, selection criteria, rules and eligibility please phone Tim Cox on 0427 291 672.
