Chris Cook and Band return to the Roxy by popular demand

February 14, 2019

A ROLLICKING MIXTURE OF BLUEGRASS, COUNTRY AND ROCKABILLY!

Chris Cook and his band thrilled audiences at the Roxy last year with a toe tapping tribute to the life and songs of Australian country legend Slim Dusty. Due to popular demand Chris and his band are back with a new show called ‘Big Country’.

Chris and the band will perform songs from many of the country greats including Johnny Cash, George Jones, Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, Merle Haggard and more.

Chris, backed by his band, presents a mixture of traditional and modern, fast and slow country classics and they play tunes from their extensive (almost limitless) repertoire.

Songs are interspersed with highly polished country banjo classics (like Flatt and Scruggs favourites Duelling Banjos and Foggy Mountain Breakdown, Dear Old Dixie, Randy Lynn Rag and The Ballad of Jed Clampett) and a variety of interesting fast and furious and sometimes hauntingly beautiful fiddle tunes and waltzes (like Orange Blossom Special, Irish and Cajun Tunes, Ashokan Farewell, Lover’s Waltz, Georgiana Moon and Midnight on the Water).

This combination of instrumental variety and excellence, popular old-time and rock ‘n roll dance music, and Chris’ ability to engage and relate to his audience creates a truly enjoyable and entertaining, high energy, Big Country Show.

Chris plays fast and furious guitar, highly polished bluegrass banjo and energetic country fiddle with his distinctive and inimitable style, infectious enthusiasm and extensive repertoire. This multi-instrumentalist and songwriter is accompanied by a very able double-bass player, Rob Renfrew, who also sings, and skilful drummer/percussionist James Cantwell. Even if you aren’t a die-hard fan of country you will love the musical talent of these fine musicians.

‘The Big Country Show’ will be performed at the Roxy Theatre Bingara on Friday 22nd February. For more information or to book visit www.roxybingara.com.au/category/whats-on/ or phone call the Bingara Visitor Information Centre on (02) 6724 0066.
