Cool work on a hot day

November 23, 2016

In perfect weather for such a task, Gwydir Shire Council staff excavated part of the river near the pump which supplies the golf course, the hatchery and the Living Classroom on Tuesday.

Over a period of time, silt had built up, making pumping difficult. An area was dredged to make space for the pontoons which hold the pumps.

Before work could begin, Council had to obtain a permit from the NSW Fisheries Department.

The yellow boom in the foreground is to keep the area enclosed to stop sediment from floating downstream.

Council staff completed the task on Tuesday afternoon.
