Date change for 2019 Bingara Race meeting

September 19, 2018

The date for the 2019 Bingara Jockey Club race meeting has been changed from the original date allocated by Racing NSW, Saturday January 26 (Australia Day) to another date, also allocated by Racing NSW.

The new allocated date is Saturday, March 9, 2019. “Hopefully this date will be more kind to everyone with regard to weather and gives the ladies of Bingara and district a little more time to organise their fashions for the day,” Bingara Jockey club President, Daryl Burling said.

The change of date has been welcomed by Gwydir Shire Council’s Special Events Committee Chair, Cr. Catherine Egan. “I am pleased that the Jockey Club thought enough of Australia Day to seek a review,” she said. The community Australia Day activity is in the morning, but two big events on the same day would, no doubt, stretch manpower on the day.

Georgia Standerwick, Marketing and Promotions Team Leader at Gwydir Shire Council, was also pleased to hear about the change of date. “The weather will be cooler than in January,” she said.

Mrs. Standerwick said the first three months of every year are always the quietest, so it was a good idea to not have two big events on the same day.

The change of date was also welcomed by Bingara Sporting Club President, Tim Cox. “We normally have a big afternoon of bowls and golf with presentation of medals on Australia Day,” Tim said.

“Race day is also a good day for the Club, as people come down after the races, so the change will work well for us.”

“All you good people of our local community please keep Saturday, March 9, 2019, free for a day of social gathering and enjoyment at the Bingara Jockey Club annual race meeting,” Daryl said.
