“Disruption, Change and Opportunity” – are you prepared?

June 14, 2017

‘There are those who make things happen, there are those who watch things happen, and there are those who say, “What happened?”!’

This quote, attributed to Mary Kay Ash, explains the way we humans face the future. Some of us take on the challenge to create the future. We are future makers! Some of us watch what others are doing, and while we may not be creative, we are quick adopters. The rest of us, follow the trends and accept what is dished up. We are future ‘takers’ and are often forced to just ‘go with the flow’!

What will our world be like in the year 2030? Across the Gwydir Shire community we have asked this question of our citizens and have produced the Wider Gwydir Vision 2030 Document, a summary of the outlook and aspirations of our people. It is part ‘wish list’, part ‘forecast’ and part ‘warning’. It is mostly optimistic, but there are areas of concern and even fear for our senior years and for the next generation.

On Friday June 23, at the Roxy Theatre in Bingara, an all-day Workshop will be held to ‘launch’ Wider Gwydir Vision 2030, and to consider some aspects of our future. It will be a day to hear from some people who are already planning and acting to make the future they want, and a chance to have your say in the discussion.

The Workshop is titled, ‘Disruption, Change and Opportunity’ and subtitled, ‘Keep calm and keep innovating, with a view towards 2035!’. The day will start at 10:00am, with registrations open at 9:30am. There will be three sessions, each of two hours, under the themes of Agriculture; Finance and Business. Our State MP Adam Marshall will launch the Wider Gwydir Vision 2030 Report at Lunchtime.

In each session there will be three or four introductory speakers, people who are currently looking to their future in those categories. After each set of speakers there will be a Panel Session with a Question & Answer focus, and at the end of the daytime, a Group Workshop.

At the end of the Workshop, a drinks session will provide a time to mix and mingle followed by a delicious Dinner. Our special after dinner Guest Speaker will be the renowned film maker and actor, Damon Gameau. Damon’s documentary, “That Sugar …” Film has been widely praised.

Book online NOW!To be a part of this great day of forward thinking, contact the Bingara Visitor Information Centre on 02 6724 0066 or book on-line.

The cost for the full day, including the Workshop, all Meals and Drinks is just $25.

Here is a chance to both discover and invest in both your future, and that of your children. It is an opportunity well worth your consideration!
