Gwydir River Rats deliver new playing uniforms and training equipment to Bingara Central School

March 14, 2019

At the conclusion of the 2018 season, Gwydir Rugby Club set about raising funds through the auction of a special one-off combined Gwydir/Barraba jersey as a concept and a celebration of the success of the merger agreement between the two rugby clubs. It was decided that the funds raised were to go towards developing rugby within the community.

“As part of the result of the successful merger we have seen an increase in the interest to play from all quarters, leading to the introduction of a women’s 7’s team and a U19’s men’s team into the Central North competition for 2019,” Gwydir River Rats President, Jason Lewis said.  “Funds raised are helping with the establishment of these teams so that there is little or no cost for the player to join our club and be registered to play.”

The final chapter in this program was finally delivered this week with the delivery of a brand new Under 10s and U12s playing uniform and a vast range of training equipment. The children were quick to try on their new uniforms and test out the tackle bags. The staff and children at Bingara Central were all very thankful for the equipment and uniforms with them being put to good use as early as the following evening at Inverell. The U12s won two of four games and were awarded the best dressed!

The Gwydir River Rats wish the U10’s and U12’s all the best for 2019 with lots of fun and tries to be scored we are sure!
