Gwydir rolls on (15-May-13) [Read

The Gwydir League juggernaut continued rolling on last Saturday with a 70-4 destruction of some very plucky, but out gunned Roosters at the Ashford Recreation ground. This follows similar treatment in the past few weeks to Tingha and Armidale and sets up the season’s most awaited game, the Bingara/ Warialda newcomers against last year’s premiers, the Glen Innes Magpies at Glen next Saturday.

Gwydir better than the score line (16-Apr-13) [Read

One of the few consistent things in modern rugby league is that the score line seldom indicates the intensity of the game. This was the case at Moree on Saturday as the Gwydir A Graders battled against the Boomerangs for 68 minutes, first one leading and then the other in what was a classic encounter. Gwydir led 18-6 after 21 minutes, the Boomies 24-18 at half time and Gwydir 30 -28 with 12 minutes on the clock. Then as often is the case, something intervenes to break the pattern.

In a remarkable display of rugby league, Gwydir won all three games to finish on top of Saturday’s Group 19 first grade launch at Glen Innes. Those closest to the Club expected a solid display, but no one dared suggest that a grand final berth was possible, let alone a win against the might of the Moree Boomerangs.
