Lego masters crowned

November 5, 2019

Bingara’s Inaugural Lego Masters, George Rattray and Morgan White, were crowned recently. After months of competition a two-day finale was held during the school holidays to determine the overall champion of the Bingara Library Lego Master Challenge.

The unbelievably close competition all came down to an extra challenge to separate the first three competitors.  Following on closely was third placed Charles Turnbull.

Mrs Philpott was amazed by the high standard of competition. “At one point five children were on the same score resulting in an additional challenge added to determine the winner both George and Morgan gained the largest score closely followed by Charles, Hamish and Jessica” she said.

Challenges throughout the tournament were wide and varied, set by The Lego Librarian. All creations were photographed, emailed and judged independently by staff from another library.

The idea of a Lego challenge came about when Library Services Coordinator noted the majority of her program attendees loved Lego afternoons. After researching Lego, Gail decided to subscribe to The Lego Librarian; the site emails weekly challenges for groups.

A final tally of points earned over the last 4 weeks of terms one, two and three was combined with the holiday event. “All the children seemed to enjoy the Lego Challenge. Each day they enjoyed making their own lunch with pizzas on day one and a sausage bun on the last” Gail said.

All children took home a hardearned medal to recognise their consistent effort and commitment. Such success may just mean another tournament and chance to be crowned Grand Champion in 2020.
