Gwydir Shire Council staff have installed a number of boxes at the northern end of the local heavy vehicle bypass, to benefit birds and other wildlife. Nest boxes are an important aspect to wildlife conservation in any areas where natural nesting hollows are not available.
The boxes have been installed to provide additional nesting areas for animals in the vicinity of the heavy vehicle route construction area. Nest boxes are a great addition to any area, as nesting hollows become more scarce, leaving much of the wildlife in the area homeless.
Nest boxes are also a good measure in areas that land clearing and construction is taking place. Council has installed boxes in a variety of shapes and sizes to accommodate all potential nesting animals.
