Orange Police warn off thieves

July 5, 2018

This Friday, children from Bingara Central School and Preschool will be let loose to pick oranges from the trees growing in Finch Street and at Gwydir Oval, Bingara.

The ceremony begins at 12pm, outside the Bingara RSL Club, and pays respect to the town’s fallen soldiers and celebrates our freedom. Freedom does not extend, however, to a free-for-all taking of oranges from the trees. They belong to the children of Bingara, and the ‘Orange Police’, also known as the children of the town and district, make sure no-one steals oranges from their trees.

Oranges are distributed to people around town, and judging by the crop on the trees this year, there will be plenty to share with visitors.

It will be a severe dressing down from students of the Bingara Central school for anyone caught trying to steal oranges before the official orange picking on Friday.
