WALK A MILE IN SOMEONE ELSE’S SHOES

June 21, 2020

The expression to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes means before judging someone, you must understand their experiences, challenges, thought processes, etc.

As part of the Stage 5 novel study this term, Bingara Central School students have been examining characters, the obstacles they have faced and the false stereotypes they fall in.

Students enjoyed choosing a character from their novel and then ‘walked a mile in their shoes’, thinking about how people perceive them and the reasons why that is not who they really are.

Using a shoe as their canvas, students have created a representation of their character and the way they contradict the stereotypes. This week they have presented their shoes to their classes, explaining their character and representation.

The interest and enjoyment students have shown during this task has been wonderful to see!
