Your chance to be a Star

The 2019 Regional Australia Bank, Bingara Happy Days Orange festival will be held on Saturday 6th July. “The street parade is always a highlight of the festival and event organisers hope to encourage more community groups and participants to enter the parade,” said Catherine Egan, Chair of the Bingara Special Events Committee.

“The Bingara Special Events Committee encourages all community groups to participate; it is a fantastic way for groups to promote their organisation and with some great prize money on offer, raise some funds for their group.”.

The theme of the festival and the parade this year will be ‘Happy Days’ celebrating the nostalgia of the 50s and 60s. The possibilities for this theme are endless, and festival organisers are looking forward to seeing plenty of Elvis and Fonzie impersonators, as well as hot rods, rock n roll dancers and characters from the movie ‘Grease’.

Following many years of restrictions imposed by Council’s insurer prohibiting participants to travel on their float entry, the Special Events Committee would like to remind entrants that participants are now able to ride on the back of trucks and trailers as part of their entry.

“The Special Events Committee was thrilled to have this restriction lifted, and it is hoped that over the next few years this change will see a number of new entries in the parade” said Georgia Standerwick, Marketing and Promotions Team Leader for Gwydir Shire Council.

“Allowing participants to appear on their float will open up many more options for entries and make the parade so much more fun and vibrant” said Georgia. While the restrictions have been lifted there are still safety precautions and entries are required to ensure the safety of all involved. Anyone interested in participating in the parade can contact the Bingara Visitor Information Centre on 6724 0066, or email gstanderwick@gwydir.nsw.gov.au
