216 Booroomooka Bulls go on sale on Friday

August 14, 2011

On Friday August 19, 216 of “Booroomooka’s Best Bulls” are up for sale. The bulls have been rigorously selected to help buyers improve valuable traits in their herds.

Booroomooka Angus carries out high levels of performance recording of pedigree cattle in large contemporary groups. As an example, in the year of 2009 they weighed 672 registered calves within 24 hours of birth. This helps increase the accuracy of the genetic evaluation which is expressed through Angus Group Breedplan.

“Our high level of performance recording enables buyers to select from a large range of bulls to improve traits such as calving ease, growth, fertility, muscle, finishing ability and marbling” said Hugh Munro.

“For example, if you need bulls to join to your heifers you can select from 145 bulls that are better than breed average for calving ease. Of those- incredibly there are 108 bulls that are also above breed average for 400 day weight and marbling,” said Sinclair Munro.

The productive cow herd has been developed for 86 years by three generations of The Munro Family from Keera, Bingara.  The cows are bred to be highly fertile, efficient and resilient.

Leading Industry Sires are mated to the cows through large scale AI  programmes. High quality sons of Industry leading sires will sell including 28 sons of Equator A241, 25 sons of Dynamite, 19 sons of Objective, 18 sons of Pendleton, 11 sons of Right Time 338 and 22 sons of Booroomooka Yogi . This year 13 yearling bulls are to sell, including 7 sons of the exciting new sire Sitz Upward.

“We are proud of this Outstanding line up of sale bulls – They are independently assessed for structural soundness using the Beef Class System, have passed a Veterinary Bull Breeding Soundness Evaluation by The Bingara Vet Clinic, are vaccinated for Vibriosis and 7 in 1. Most importantly they are quiet and are in a robust condition ready to work,” said Sinclair.

As an added assurance for buyers, all the sale bulls have been tested PI-free for pestivirus, and are free of genetic defects (AM, NH and CA),

As an added benefit to Buyers, The Booroomooka Sale Catalogue is quality assured by Angus Australia. That is, all Lots are registered.

Pedigree and Breedplan figures are downloaded directly from the Angus Australia data base, traits observed are displayed for all lots, and the genetic status for all lots is displayed.

Morning Tea and Lunch will be supplied by The Bingara Westpac Helicopter Support Group. Buyers are encouraged to pre register for the sale to save time on sale day, a Buyer Registration form is at the back of the catalogue. The Bulls will be available for inspection from 9am or any other time by appointment.
