75 years of Queen’s Birthday Tennis

May 31, 2011

On Wednesday May 13, 1936 an article in the Bingara Advocate announced an Open Tennis Tournament with championship and handicap events for both ‘ladies and gents’ on the Kings Birthday Weekend the following month (June 27, 28 and 29) on the recently completed tennis courts at the Golf Club (as it was then).

This year on the Queens Birthday Weekend, 75 years later, the tournament is still running and is reported to be one of the, if not the, longest continually run regional tennis tournament.  On this special Anniversary weekend we invite any players who have competed over the years to attend an Anniversary Dinner at the Sporting Club on Sunday June 12.

If you would like to attend can you please phone Jan Miller on 6724 1951 to register you name as we numbers are needed for catering.

Also as part of the celebrations there will be a free junior tennis coaching clinic on Friday, June 10 from 3.30pm for students from Kindy to Year 12. Professional coaches from Tennis NSW are coming to run this event so it will provide a wonderful opportunity for those who are interested.

You will need to register for this also so if you can phone Nicole Dixon on 6724 1103 or Jan on 6724 1951 leaving a message with your child’s name and age, please.
