75th Bingara Tennis Tournament this weekend

June 10, 2011

The June long weekend is here at last and the 2011 Bingara Tennis Open Tournament gets underway early Saturday morning.

To kick it off we are offering the children of Bingara (from Kindergarten to Year 12) the opportunity to take part in a free junior tennis coaching clinic on Friday 10th June from 3.30pm.  This clinic is being run by professional coaches from Tennis NSW who will be coming here to join us for the weekend.  It would be helpful if you could phone Nicole Dixon on 6724 1103 to register your child’s name and age.

There is still a little time left for you to enter in an event, so ring Gay Mack now on 6724 1178, and definitely plenty of time to come and watch some really good, entertaining tennis between some of our local players, some new comers and some old favourites from ‘away’.  So ‘come on down’ and spend an hour or two. A barbecue, tea and coffee (run by Bingara Lions Club) will be available.

New faces at Bingara Tennis weekend
A number of new, top players from the region have nominated to play in the 75th Bingara Open Tennis Tournament.

Tournament Secretary, Gay Mack, said she has about 50 players booked in, and is waiting on some who have indicated they will nominate.

“Nominations from Inverell and Moree, from top competitors who have not played in Bingara before, will make the Bingara Tournament a good regional competition,”

Gay said. A number of Sydney players who have come to Bingara for many years have sent apologies because of injuries.  “We have had old friends ring and say they can’t come. One has had knee surgery, a couple have shoulder injuries, and one has had a hip replacement,” Gay said.

Regular player, and often winner, Pat Stanton, will be bringing his family to Bingara for the weekend, and a number of players are coming from Brisbane to take part.

Action starts on Saturday morning and continues throughout the weekend.
