900th meeting for Bingara Lions Club

March 8, 2016

On Tuesday March 1 Bingara Lions Club celebrated it’s 900th meeting since it’s very first Charter 38 years ago.

Many of the old members returned to celebrate with the new members. David Emanual, Zone Chairman, and John Davis, Regional Chairman, from Tamworth joined in the celebrations with club members from Moree, Warialda and Barraba.

“For a small Club Bingara has made amazing contributions to the community of Bingara,” David said in his toast to the Club.

“The achievements have been outstanding from the day the Charter was signed and now, still going strong, still achieving great things in a small community”.

“With over 20 members it is not always easy to find the many hands we need to fulfil all our projects” said Ian Grieve, President 2015.  “This is always going to be our biggest challenge.

“We have many commitments like Show gates, Race gates, Footy gates, Australia Day barbecue and Orange Festival every year as well as all the many other things we do for the hospital and Schools in the area”.

Barraba President, Simon Koopman, spoke of the decision to sponsor a club in Bingara and told a few stories about the “good old days”.

It was a night of stories, laughter and friendship, bonds formed over 38 years and renewed on this night for the next 38 years of Bingara Lions Club.

We need new hands to carry on, we need to encourage the young people to serve the community they are building for their future and we need to foster a spirit of community in the towns we live and serve.

Most of all we need to have fun along the way and Bingara Lions Club do fun very well. Please join us for a meeting anytime, just contact a Lion and we will welcome you.

The RSL has always been a great supporter and we filled the dining room with over 40 guests for a buffet dinner. As always our meal was superb and there were plenty of compliments to the ladies in the kitchen.

Thank you to everyone who supports our Lions Club with raffles, barbecues and events, we can’t do anything without you.

Thank you for all the contributions to our meat raffles and many donations for our Christmas raffle and all our events. Thank you for the support in buying mints, cakes and puddings. Without the support of this wonderful Bingara community we wouldn’t have a Lions Club in Bingara.
