About four weeks ago, close to town, Barry Nay and Michael Reading went to retrieve what they thought was a white plastic bag in the river. If they see any rubbish they try to pick it up to keep the river clean. The ‘plastic bag’ happened to be a 60lb Murray Cod asleep on his back.
Barry calls him a travelling cod, been away during breeding season. Mick put the landing net over the fish’s head and pulled him into the boat. Barry said he will most definitely leave some big cod for everybody’s grandchildren to see. “We took this one because they live on smaller cod, yellow belly and catfish which we like to eat ourselves”, he said.
