A cracker of a painting

October 7, 2015

“I am sending you a cracker of a painting” stated a famous Queensland artist when he replied to an invitation to enter the Gwydir Art Show. When his painting was unwrapped it confirmed that what the artist declared was certainly true.

The painting will be one of many such entries on display when the Gwydir Art Exhibition opens on Thursday, October 22. A large collection of paintings, photographic entries, pottery and other crafts have already arrived in Bingara for the 17th annual event.

Organiser are much encouraged about the large number of well known artists entering this show for the first time.

“A feature of the exhibition will be a photographic display by Inverell’s Kathryn Rorke and Janet Makepeace,” said organisers Robyn Hansen. “As well as our very own local photographer, Garry Voysey.”

Renowned Tamworth artist Yvonne Querton will be the judge in the painting section this year. A selection of Yvonne’s art work will also be displayed and patrons may avail themselves of the opportunity to purchase one of these paintings.

Metal art is a new section this year and prizes will be awarded for the best metal object both in Senior and Junior sections.

Proceeds from the Gwydir Art Show will benefit the local Community Comfort Fund which supports patients with a life threatening condition.

The Official Opening Dinner and announcement of prize winners will take place on Thursday, October 22 at 7pm in the Bingara Civic Centre.

Bookings may be made by phoning 02 6724 0057 or 0427 241 668.
