A large gathering hears news of exciting Bingara and Warialda projects.

July 26, 2011

Nearly fifty people, including a guest contingent from Warialda’s Chamber of Commerce, gathered at the Roxy Conference Room and Restaurant Complex on the night of Tuesday July 19, for a Special Meeting hosted by Bingara and District VISION 2020 and generously sponsored by New England Mutual.

After a short “monthly meeting” and a delicious feed, the gathering received three presentations that provided some very positive support for the two main towns in the Gwydir Shire, Warialda and Bingara.

Award winning Landscape Architect, John Mongard, outlined the styles and processes required to make our country towns, dynamic, “people focused places” in which to live in the 21st century. John has provided “townscapes” for both Warialda and Bingara. His ideas and examples from other projects he has worked on from North Queensland to Tasmania, delighted the audience leaving them very enthusiastic to support the local projects.

The second presenter, Garry McDouall, is the Chairman of the steering committee developing the Australian Centre for Regenerative Agriculture – A Living Classroom, which has commenced construction on the Bingara Common. This project promises to engage our community and aspires to provide new ideas and projects to help regenerate agriculture across Australia.

The third presenter was Gwydir Shire Council’s Education Officer, Rod Smith. Rod gave an up-date on the three Trade Training Centres that are underway within the Gwydir Shire, focusing mainly on the Heavy Vehicle Maintenance TTC being constructed adjoining Warialda High School.

The three TTC’s are timely and relevant to the needs and challenges of our Gwydir Shire and will service the needs of the New England / North West Region.

A special guest at the meeting was Paul Cruickshank from the NSW Department of Industry and Investment. Paul oversees the State Government’s renewable energy projects and is very keen to see a local project commence in Bingara.

President of VISION 2020, Rick Hutton thanked the presenters as well as NEM and the Gwydir Shire Council for their continuing support.
