A Night at the Opera at the Roxy

Opera North West presenters of Opera in the Paddock, together with the Roxy Theatre, will present a gala evening A Night at the Opera on April 12 at the Roxy Theatre, Bingara, commencing 7.30pm.

John WoodsLexi Hutton, Bingara born soprano will star in the concert with fellow artists Peta Blyth, soprano, the popular bass David Hibbard,  Melbourne based tenor, Jason Wasley and pianist John Woods.

The program will feature excerpts from Beethoven’s only opera Fidelio, Rossini’s Count Ory, Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro and the Abduction from the Seraglio, and Leoncavallo’s  I Pagliacci. 

To  mark the bicentenary of Verdi’s birth, the artists will perform  selections from one of Verdi’s most popular operas, La Traviata, and  one his later operas, Don Carlos. All time favourite, "The Pearlfishers duet" will be performed by Mr Hibbard and Mr Wasley.

Another highlight will be Ms Hutton’s performance of the Doll Song from Offenbach’s The Tales of Hoffmann. Lighter selections will feature works by Die Fledermaus Johann Strauss, Lehar’s Paginini, Bernstein’s Westside Story, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s My Fair Lady  and Song and Dance by Andrew Lloyd Weber.

Lexi Hutton

Having performed at both the 2006 and 2009 performance of Opera in the Paddock, it will be terrific to welcome Lexi Hutton back.

A few years ago, Lexi left to study in London and ever since, her career has been on the rise. Lexi is only home for a short time, before returning to the UK to perform in the Aldeburgh Festival’s Britten Centenary production of Peter Grimes. She will then take up a Young Artists contract with Deutsche Opera, Berlin.

Jason Wasley

Tenor Jason Wasley recently performed the role of Florestan in Beethoven’ s Fidelio for Victorian Opera. Bass David Hibbard, an all time favourite of Opera in the Paddock recently performed the role of Rocco in Fidelio for the State Opera of South Australia. Later this year, he will be one of the featured artists in Opera at Jimbour, near Dalby.

Peta Blyth

Artistic Director, Peta Blyth said that,  "While it is disappointing not to be presenting Opera in the Paddock at Mimosa this year, Opera North West will continue to present exciting and interesting programs, throughout the region this year. Further details will be announced shortly."
