A packed house for Bingara’s own Lexi

She may live on the other side of the world, where she is carving an impressive reputation in the world of opera, but to Bingara people, Lexi Hutton will always be “ours”. Lexi returned to London last Monday, after a brief visit home to visit family and friends.

Last Friday night week, accompanied by Peta Blyth, David Hibbard, John Wood and Jason Wasley, Lexi played to a packed Roxy Theatre. The audience was not disappointed, and were very aware of the special treat they were experiencing.

Earlier in the week, Lexi paid a visit to her old school, PLC Armidale, where she gave tips, and a short performance, for the students.  Lexi graduated from PLC in 2001, where she was encouraged by PLC Music teacher, Mrs Deidre Rickards, and her own family, to follow her dream of becoming an international opera singer.

After completing her HSC at PLC, Lexi completed a Bachelor of Music (Performance) at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and then travelled to London where she undertook further musical studies at the Royal College of Music in London (the very same College where Dame Joan Sutherland honed her skills), and graduated with a Masters of Music (with Distinction).

Before moving overseas, Lexi also performed twice at Opera In the Paddock.

She will shortly take up a 12 month scholarship to sing with the famous Deutsche Opera in Berlin.

At PLC,Lexi was asked what her ambition was. She immediately responded, “I just love to sing. My goal has always been to sing small roles in big ‘houses’, which is happening now. From here I hope to gain bigger roles as my voice gets stronger.”

Whilst in Australia this visit, she has also auditioned with Opera Australia, where she has been advised that an offer awaits.
