A spectacular evening assured

A Night at the Opera to be held at The Roxy on Friday April 12, is set to be a spectacular evening of entertainment.

Soprano Peta Blyth is the Artistic Director of Opera North West, presenters of Opera in the Paddock, who will also present the concert at The Roxy. Like the renowned event that takes place at Mimosa every year, the evening at The Roxy will attract some of the biggest names on the Australian operatic scene.

Peta BlythPeta Blyth will perform at The Roxy, alongside Lexi Hutton, popular bass and Opera in the Paddock favourite David Hibbard, as well as Melbourne based tenor Jason Wasley. The performers will be accompanied by pianist John Woods.

“The calibre of the singers who will perform at The Roxy is quite exceptional” Mrs Blyth said. “We are particularly thrilled that Bingara soprano Lexi Hutton, who has returned from overseas for a short period, will perform on the evening.”

Mrs Blyth continues “The Roxy is such a fantastic venue and ideal for the opera night. The acoustics are terrific and Opera North West is looking very much forward to this exciting presentation. Having performed at both the 2006 and 2009 performance of Opera in the Paddock, it will be terrific to welcome Lexi Hutton back.”

“Lexi has achieved many successes both in the UK and Europe,” Ms Blyth said. “She has already proved that she is in demand. We are delighted that she will be taking up a Young Artist contract with Deustche Opera, Berlin later this year.”

One of the highlights of the evening at The Roxy will be the performance by Lexi of The Doll Song from Offenbach’s The Tales of Hoffmann. Other highlights will include excerpts from Beethoven’s only opera Fidelio, Rossini’s Count Ory and Barber of Seville, Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro and the Abduction from the Seraglio, and Leoncavallo’s I Pagliacci.

To mark the bicentenary of Verdi’s birth, the artists will perform selections from one of his most popular operas, La Traviata, and one his later operas, Don Carlos. David Hibbard and Jason Wasley will sing “The Pearlfishers Duet”. Lighter selections will feature works by Johann Strauss, Lehar, Bernstein and Lloyd Weber.
