A trip down Memory Lane

October 15, 2013

This Saturday the Roxy Theatre will be, for ‘those who can remember’, a trip down memory lane.

The Historical Collection, a series of short films of local people and events from the Bingara district from 1976 to 1983 portray significant events during that time. The films include Workings at Woodsreef Mine 1979-1982, Amalgamation Protest – Bingara /Warialda 1977, Bingara Vs Bundarra Football Semi-final 1979, Construction of the Unnamed Bridge 1978, Anzac Day Parade and Interviews 1977, Sesqui Centenary Re-enactment of Gwydir Crossing by explorer Allan Cunningham 1977.

These films are produced and filmed by Peter Rose, and the digital editing is by Tony Morehead.

The asbestos mined at Woodsreef was white asbestos which did not become dangerous until mixed by Hardys with blue asbestos from which many building and plumbing supplies were later made. So this film is an opportunity to see the way the mine operated some 36 years ago, ‘full steam ‘ ahead, no protection, when hundreds of men from the Warialda/Bingara/ Bundarra and Barraba districts worked there.

The evening will begin with wine tasting from Delungra Winery and Jamie Lanagan’s music , then two short film segments with finger food supper at half time. Presentations of the film collections to Bingara Shire Council, Bingara RSL and Bingara Historical Society will be made.
