January 27, 2013

The Annual General Meeting for Bingara and District Vision 2020 will be held at the Imperial Hotel Conference Room in Bingara on Thursday, February 7. Commencing at 6:30pm, the meeting will be followed by a finger food supper and drinks at 8pm.

Now entering into its ninth year, V2020 is ready to re-appraise its focus and direction for the next twelve months. Originally established to be a community based progress association for the Bingara District, V2020 has proudly pursued and promoted issues to give longevity, variety, identity and a sense of purpose to our community.

The Living Classroom Bingara

“We have developed resources, like the “imagine” tourist brochure and the www.bingara.com.au website. We have conducted regional forums to consider issues of tourism, local energy and the future of country towns. We have championed issues such as the Bingara Strategic Plan, the sealing of the Killarney Gap Road, the Hall’s Creek Park and stabilization works, and The Living Classroom project,” said retiring President, Rick Hutton.

“We have been very proud of our links and liaisons with the Gwydir Shire Council and with State and Federal Governments,” he added. “We have certainly talked the talk, but we have, more importantly, walked the walk, being very much prepared to get our hands dirty, to get the jobs done,” he said.

The outgoing V2020 Committee believes that this year, it is very timely, and important, to re-evaluate the processes and procedures that the group follows.

“We think we can offer assistance to other community organizations, to businesses and to Gwydir Shire Council, based upon our membership, our experience and our achievements thus far,” Rick said.
