Animal hospital planned for Pet Inn and refuge

February 28, 2013

Local animal lovers, Geoff and Pat Johnston, who own the Gwydir Park Pet Inn at Delungra, are planning to build an animal hospital.

Mr. Johnston said it would take some time to raise money to build the hospital, and it could be 10 years before the plan comes to fruition.

The Johnstons have been running an animal refuge in conjunction with the Pet Inn for a number of years.

Mr. Johnston told the Advocate he has spoken to some retired veterinary surgeons who voiced support for the project.

The animal hospital, he said, would be able to provide general veterinary services to people, but at a lower cost.

Over the Christmas period, Gwydir Park Pet Inn cared for more than 200 dogs, including refugees. For information on how to donate to the refuge or to assist, phone Geoff Johnston on 6724 8580.

Recently Bingara Wattle Arts and Crafts made a substantial donation to the animal refuge.
