Apprentice award for local mechanic

Gwydir Shire Council heavy vehicle mechanic, Aaron Goodwin has won the New England and North West Region Local Government Apprentice Award.

Aaron received his award at the New England and North West Region, 2007 NSW Training Awards held in Tamworth last Friday night.

He began his apprenticeship with Council in March 2003, and completed his training earlier this year.

Aaron said the awards consisted or a number of different categories covering a range of industries.

After he was nominated, Aaron was chosen to be interviewed, and from that interview, was chosen as one of 14 finalists to go forward to the presentations.

Awards were presented in each of the categories, and from that, an overall winner was chosen, who will go forward and compete against others in the state.

Aaron attended the presentations with his girlfriend, Beth Ozols, and his parents, David and Ros Goodwin.

For most of his apprenticeship, Aaron worked with mechanic, Ben Roberts, and attended TAFE in Tamworth.

He said he enjoys being part of a team which works well together at Gwydir Council. The hours are flexible, and he has a wide range of machinery and equipment to work on.
