“Are you ready to try for a part in ‘Blithe Spirit’?”

January 28, 2016

Auditions for the North West Theatre Company’s production of Noel Coward’s classic comedy ‘Blithe Spirit’ will be held at the Roxy Theatre in Bingara on Sunday, February 7. There are ten wonderful character parts available.

‘Auditions are open, and are a lot of fun,’ said the Director of the production, Rick Hutton. ‘Blithe Spirit, is an hilariously spooky comedy with lots of twists and turns, some wonderful dialogue, and a bit of cheeky innuendo,’ Rick said.

The production will be staged, at the Roxy Theatre, in May. There will be five performances, two in the evening, Saturday 7 and Friday 13, and three matinees, on Sunday 8 and 15, and Saturday 14. Tickets will be available from April 1 through the Bingara Visitor Information Centre.

‘Performing “on-stage” is something that many people have on their “wish list”, but few take the opportunity to try it,’ said Rick Hutton. ‘At the NWTC we have provided that opportunity for many. We aim to produce a quality production and we have put together a great crew to ensure that our players have a wonderful time and our audiences are delighted by their theatrical experience,’ he added.

‘Blithe Spirit is set in the sophisticated country home, of Charles Condomine and his second wife, Ruth. It is in Kent, England and the year is 1965. Charles is a successful writer. He wishes to get some ideas about clairvoyants and the occult for his new book, and so invites Madam Arcati, a “spiritual medium”, new to the village, to a dinner and séance. Charles wants to discover her “tricks of the trade”,’ Rick explained.

‘The other dinner guests are local friends, Dr and Mrs Bradman, and after dinner, Madam Arcati conducts the séance. Unexpectedly the “ghost” of Charles’ first wife, Elvira, is ‘summoned’. Elvira seems intent on staying, to dally in the affairs of her former husband, and clash with his ‘replacement’ wife. From there on, ‘Blithe Spirit’ is a “mad-cap romp”, from one crazy scene to the next, as the ‘living’ characters try to come to terms with the ‘ghostly’ intruder,’ Rick said.
