Austen Tayshus bringing some ‘Australiana’ to the Roxy

Following the release of his 1983 hit single ‘Australiana’, Austen Tayshus became a household name. ‘Austen’ is a highly experienced and multi-award winning Australian entertainer and has been performing in Australia and around the world since 1980.

His 1983 single ‘Australiana’ holds the record for the highest selling Australian single ever and is still popular 30 years later. Austen has produced a comedy record almost every year since and has performed numerous times at the Melbourne and Sydney Comedy Festivals, and also at the Adelaide Fringe Festival.

He has released numerous recordings, mostly with social consciousness themes and has appeared in many documentaries about the Holocaust.

Austen is a graduate of the Australian Film Television and Radio School (1978) and has directed, written and performed in many short films and feature films in Australia and the United States.

He wrote and starred in ‘Intolerance’, a short film for which he won best film and best actor in Tropfest 1998.

In 2010 he ran for the Australian House of Representatives in the Division of Wahroonga (against Tony Abbot) representing the Australian Sex Party.

He subsequently ran in the 2011 NSW State election as a member of the Outdoor Recreation Party, contesting Opposition Leader Barry O’Farrell’s seat of Ku-ring-gai.

Austen Tayshus has performed in the television show Live and Kicking, and in 2012 appeared as a panellist on the ABC’s political panel show Q&A. He is currently touring Australia while developing several film and television projects.

Austen Tayshus will be performing at The Roxy Theatre in Bingara on November 2.
