Australia Day recovery concert this Sunday in Barraba

January 25, 2020

Barraba is looking forward to a fabulous Australia Day this year by bringing to town the Australia Day Recovery Concert, a drought relief event to be held at the Barraba Rugby ground. Amber Lawrence, Andrew Farris from INXS with his band The Rain Makers and Drew McAllister from McAllister Kemp are coming to town to headline the concert which kicks off at 6pm.

The music will follow Barraba’s Australia Day Awards, which this year have been moved from the pool to be held on the veranda of the rugby club, from 5pm.

Organising committee member John Bishton told The Gwydir News that the concert will be much like the drought relief concerts we’ve enjoyed in Bingara over recent times.

“We’re very excited, it should be a great evening and everyone’s welcome,” he said. “We’re hoping it will be green and not too wet.”

Refreshments and food will be available on site on the evening, with those attending asked to bring a chair and blankets. No glass or BYO alcohol will be allowed.

“I was talking to About Barraba – the business chamber down there and some of us got together to organise the talent.

“Lisa Hannaford from Tamworth Council has done most of the organising with Drought Angels coming on board with the funding; they’ve been very good having given a couple of amounts to the area,” said John. A free bus will pick up guests from Upper Horton Sports Club at 4:30pm on the day.

Please contact Barraba Council office on 02 6782 1105 to book a place.

Local businesses and Barraba Lions and Rotary clubs have also been generous in their assistance.
