Bingara Australia Day Celebrations 2009

Monday, January 26 is Australia Day and Bingara has a wonderful day of celebration planned.

The Day’s events will kick off at 8.30am at the Bingara Museum, with a FREE BBQ Breakfast hosted by the Bingara Historical Society & Gwydir Shire Council.

Official proceedings commence at 9.00am with the welcome, flag raising, national anthem and poets breakfast – original poems to have either an Australia Day or Bingara influence (junior and senior prizes).

Next will be the Australia Day Golf & Bowls Competition at 11.00am, at the Bingara Sporting Club.  The cost is $5.00 per person and includes a BBQ lunch.

The celebrations will culminate at 5.30pm at the Bingara pool where the official Australia Day awards ceremony will take place, compered by  popular Gem FM radio personality PETER CADDEY.  Entry to the pool is free.

Bingara is fortuate to have George Barton as it’s Australia Day Ambassador.  George is a dual Olympian, Commonwealth silver and bronze medalist, who has won over 10 National titles and holds numerous Australian records (some of which are still current) in the sport of Clay Target Shooting.
