Bingara Community College to become Part of Northern Inland group

November 15, 2010

Over more than 20 years a strong relationship has developed between Bingara Community College and Community College-Northern Inland.

The two organisations share a common philosophy about life long learning, the importance of responding to local community learning needs and being connected by local people in each community.

In recent months discussions have taken place about joining together and the benefits that can come from such a move.

Several weeks ago the management committee of Bingara Community College voted to cease operation at the end of 2010 and Northern Inland have agreed to provide adult learning to the Bingara area commencing early 2011.

Collegiate support amongst the Program Coordinators across the region, joint program planning and sharing resources has always been a feature between the 2 organisations. This will now be strengthened even further with the new arrangements.

Ellie Skinner will remain in the position of Program Coordinator and classes will continue at The Learning Centre in Riddell St as they currently do.

Northern Inland have operated for nearly 30 years and are based in Barraba with Program Coordinators in Inverell, Warialda, Moree, Narrabri and Gunnedah.

The College distributes a 20 page colour magazine style brochure each term listing the broad range of courses in each location.

This provides an opportunity for people to see what’s on in nearby towns if the training they require isn’t available locally at that time. Northern Inland also have a commitment to general hobby and leisure programs and these will continue in 2011 and beyond.

Toni Moodie, President of Bingara College or Ellie Skinner would be pleased to hear for people about ideas for courses in 2011 as Ellie will still be developing the program each term based on what people request.
