Bingara Lions continue long association with Touriandi

February 20, 2009

From the night, about 20 years ago, when the Bingara community decided to start raising money to build an aged care hostel, the Bingara Lions Club has been heavily involved.

Indeed, the Chairman of the initial fund-raising committee, Peter Turnbull, Secretary David Muir were Lions Club members.  Committee Treasurer, Judy Mack was also closely associated with Lions as the wife of Lion Brian Mack.

The Lions Club donated $20,000 towards the construction of the hostel.

After it was built, Peter, David and Judy also served on the first Touriandi Inc. Board.

In the years that followed, the Bingara Lions Club has continued to play a significant role in providing funds for the facility.

The Lions were back at Touriandi recently, armed with another cheque, which was presented to current Touriandi Chairman, Kevin Hansen and Treasurer, Graham Hosegood.

The $20,000 cheque was accepted by Mr. Hansen, who said the funds would "go a long way to fit out the new laundry."

Mr. Hansen said Mr. Turnbull, Mr. Muir and Mrs. Mack had recognised the need for the facility.  He said Touriandi has spent $2.5 million on the extensions which he expects will be finished before the end of March.

He invited the Lions Club members to be the first to tour the new building when it is handed over to the Board.
