Bingara locals make up the number on film set

December 8, 2008

Actors Paul Hogan and Shane Jacobson, accompanied by a large film crew, were in Bingara on Monday to film a scene for a new Australian movie, Charlie and Boots.

A number of local people were needed to act as extras for the scene, shot at the Roxy Theatre. Filming took all day last Monday, with the unit base set up on Gwydir Oval.

Local people, Mervyn Hall, Glenda Wright, Shirley Rane, Rebecca Mack, Eloise Brown, Rod Brown, Judy Hall, Steve Webber, Jenni Reddy and Ben Hutton worked as extras at the shooting of a scene of the film “Charlie and Boots”. Rick Hutton and John Wearne were also extras, but missed this photograph.

The film, written, directed and produced by Dean Murphy, tells the story of Charlie McFarland (Hogan) and his son Boots (Jacobson) and their ‘trip of a lifetime’ from regional Victoria to the Cape York Peninsula.

The Advocate understands the Roxy was chosen because it is nicer than any venue in Tamworth.
