Bingara plays host to region’s show jumpers

August 2, 2012

On the weekend of July 21 and 22, Bingara Pony Club held their annual Show Jumping weekend.

The event had been postponed from the previous weekend due to the wet weather. So when it dawned sunny on Saturday morning, albeit with a freezing cold southerly blowing, a successful weekend seemed assured.

The Pony Club had 48 nominations with competitors coming from as far as Narrabri, Moree, Inverell and Armidale, as well as our locals from Gravesend, Warialda, North Star, Garah Boomi and Bingara.

The weekend, which was sponsored by Hiscocks Saddlery Tamworth, saw competitors compete in six events in each grade.

The overall winners were: A grade – Brooke O’Halloran; B grade – Jessica Towns; C grade – Jim Gillan; D grade – Kacie Leigh Withers; E grade – Annabelle Bundock.

This year in an effort to encourage more riders it was decided to hold a Zone Jumping Competition with points from Warialda, Gravesend and Bingara Jumping weekends being added together and an overall point score being awarded for first, second and third place getters in each grade.

To be eligible for the zone competition competitors had to have attended each of the three jumping weekends.

The place getters were announced at Presentation at the conclusion of competition on Sunday. They were as follows.

  • Associates – Hayley Farrell;
  • A grade – 1st Brooke O’Halloran, 2nd Loretta Morris;
  • B grade – 1st Jessica Towns, 2nd Becky Gillan, 3rd Aamie Cleal;
  • C grade – 1st Jim Gillan, 2nd Mitchell Mack, 3rd Kelsey Cooper; D grade – 1st Jacqueline Coombes, 2nd Colless Coombes, 3rd Tayla Brown;
  • E grade – 1st Bella Reardon, 2nd Hollie O’Halloran, 3rd Liliana Reardon.

President of Bingara Pony Club Rob Coombes thanked everyone for their help and declared the weekend and the zone competition a success.
