May 1, 2009

This weekend, May 2 and 3, the Bingara Polocrosse Club will be holding their annual Polocrosse carnival at the showgrounds from 9am Saturday and Sunday. A variety of teams is expected from all over for what is set to be a great weekend of Polocrosse.

Canteen and Bar facilities will be available all weekend with a Dinner and Disco being held on Saturday night at the grounds.  All Bingara residents are encouraged to come out and support the local club and cheer on the Bingara teams as they battle it out on their home turf.

On the weekend the Bingara Polocrosse Club were runners up in their grade when representing at the Inverell Polocrosse Carnival. The team consisted of Phil Frewen, Marc Tongue, Jason Creed, Glen Hull, Jessica Barnes and Melissa Hanson.

It was an exciting weekend of polocrosse with the Bingara team coming up against some tough competition. Saturday morning saw the club come up against the Inverell 3 team in what was a great beginning match. The game saw the team display some excellent team work skills which paid off when they won 15 points to 4.

The next game against Warwick 3 proved to be a nail biter. The first two chukkas saw Bingara take the score out ahead for what appeared to be an easy win. The Warwick team were determined to not go down without a fight when they come back harder and faster in the final two chukkas. Bingara however were not deterred and managed to stay out in front to take an easy win of 12 points to 8.

Bingara versus Cunningham 2 was the first match for the day on Sunday for the Bingara Club and proved it was going to be a tough day. The first chukka saw Phil, Jason and Marc display some excellent team work when they took the chukka, keeping Cunningham from scoring. This saw Cunningham come out fighting in the second chukka keeping Glen, Jessica and Melissa working for their win.

Excellent attacking and defence from the trio however saw the chukka remain oneven scores ensuring Bingara stayed in the lead. The final two chukkas were a tight match between the two teams with the  scores remaining close. On the final bell however Bingara proved to be the better team coming out to  win 16 points to 12.

Sunday afternoon was the grand final between Bingara and the Queensland team of Tansey 3. It was always going to be a tough game against the Tansey team however Bingara were determined to not go down without a fight. Some excellent team work as well as ball skills were displayed by all players as the game remained tight throughout the first two chukkas.

Tansey however proved to be the tougher opponent winning 10 points to 6. Overall it was a great weekend of polocrosse with Bingara walking away as Runners Up and Phil Frewen scoring Best Number One for the grade. Congratulations Phil.

The Bingara Club was also represented on the weekend in the Sub Junior section by Cameron Hull. Cameron, riding his horse Honey, played four games in total over the weekend. Once again Cameron proved he is going to be a tough player when he is older as he and his team mates out rode their opposition to put points on the board. Cameron was awareded a medallion and a prize for his great efforts.
