The Bingara Polocrosse Club walked away D grade runners up and with two best numbers when they played at the Guyra Carnival on the weekend. The team consisted of Phil Frewen, Melissa Hanson, Glenn Hull, Bree Thompson, Marc Tongue and Jason Creed.
Five games were played in total, and as most players were on young horses it seemed like a daunting task.
Saturday’s first game was a grading game and saw Bingara come up against Cunningham for a difficult but exciting battle. Cunningham walked away with the win however Bingara were in high spirits from the performances their young horses put on.
The second game on Saturday saw Bingara come up against Inverell 2. The game was fast past and full of action but excellent team work between both chuckers saw Bingara come out on top with a convincing win of 12 to 6.
The third game for Saturday saw Bingara come up against the north coast team Macksville 2 in an edge of your seat challenge. The game remained even throughout the whole match with Macksville 2 coming up on top in the last few minutes to take the win 8 to 7.
Sunday’s games started out against fellow northern tablelands team Warialda. Bingara’s horses were fresh from a nights rest and keen for the challenge and helped Bingara take the win 11 to 6.
Some excellent team work was on display between Glenn Hull, Melissa Hanson and Phil Frewen. Defender Glenn stole the ball from their number one and with help from Melissa was able to carry the ball down the field for an excellent pass to Phil. Phil, riding Bundy, was able to manipulate his way past his opponent to get the ball through the goals to add another point to the board.
Sunday’s final game saw Bingara come up against Macksville 1 in an exciting challenge that displayed the skills of Bree Thompson, Marc Tongue and Jason Creed. With a number of snatches from the line up and strong defence, Bingara were able to walk away with and easy win at 13 to 4.
As a result of the wins Bingara were runners up for the D grade division. Melissa Hanson was awarded best number two and Bree Thompson received best number one.
Bingara was also represented in the Sub-Junior sections with Cameron Hull playing on Honey. Riding a horse that towered over him, Cameron proved himself to be the little horseman when he played as number one and three throughout the weekend.
Cameron displayed excellent ball and racquet skills when he managed to pick the ball up from the defenders end and take it down the field to his awaiting team mates. Cameron’s team managed to take a win over the weekend and the sub-juniors all walked away with prizes to remember their carnival.
Bingara Polocrosse Club will next be attending the Inverell Polocrosse carnival which will be held on 25 and 26 April 2009. Preparations are also underway for Bingara’s carnival which is to be held on May 2-3 at the Bingara Showgrounds.
All Bingara residents should keep the dates free and come down for what is set to be an exciting weekend of polocrosse.
