Bingara’s Young Citizen of the Year

February 2, 2008

Ben was nominated by the Gwydir Shire Council and the Gwydir Learning Region.

Young Citizen of the Year,
Ben O’Brien.

Ben has been an exceptional young Bingara citizen. He has contributed for many years as a volunteer with both the S.E.S. and rural fire service, and more recently has worked as a tutor for Warialda High School and TAFE New England in educating senior members of the community in the use of computers.

Although he is only 18, Ben is highly regarded within the community. His enthusiasm and dedication to his duties has been outstanding. He is considerate, well mannered, honest and an excellent example to his peer group.

Ben’s active role in emergency services, and as a tutor for the Gwydir Learning Region, has been of major benefit to the community. He has completed a two-year electro-technology course while juggling his senior studies, displaying a maturity well beyond his years by personally making all his own arrangements for travel to his course in Tamworth.

Ben is now working in the Hunter Valley, but returned home for the long weekend.
