Bullets fly at Bendy

May 31, 2012

After a team meeting on Friday night, where we were contemplating a forfeit due to a lack of numbers, a slightly depleted side travelled to Bendemeer.

On a cold Saturday afternoon where supporters huddled together to stay warm the boys put their hands up and strung together some of the best rugby league you could hope to see. Spirited defence and well constructed sets of attack soon had the boys in for the first of seven tries. I don’t think you could say anybody shirked their duty and the team played like mates.

A half time score line of 12-4 thanks to a bullocking run by Dave Reading which resulted in the first try, then Flash Rafter picked up a loose ball and ran 80 metres to score the second try. I’m not saying he is quick but I don’t think the wind could keep up with him.

Bendy came out in the second half with a change of attitude and put two tries on us but the boys regrouped and halted their charge. Five more tries in the second half and a faultless day with the boot from Brad Craddock saw the score blow out to 42 points to 12 in our favour.

Kyle Miller picked up the players’ award, top effort mate. Supporters voted 3 to Kyle, 2 to Brad White and 1 to Dan Rafter and Shane Fletcher. The ref saw the game a little differently and gave the points to Boof Abra, Tyrone Clark from Bendy and Brad White.

The game at times was extremely spiteful but we didn’t get drawn in to the dark side of the game, we just let the scoreboard do our talking. Solid games were had by Pete Anderson, Jono Evans and Steve Garrett.
