Businesses urged to apply for grants

August 26, 2020

Gwydir Shire retail businesses are encouraged to apply for the Bushfire Recovery Business Makeover Grant, to assist in adding to the visual street appeal of their shopfront. Applicants can make submissions for one of two grants currently open to enhance the organisation of retail spaces utilising inside and outside opportunities or to beautify the outside appeal of the shop area.

Not requiring any co-contribution, the Mini Makeover Grant is a $500 boost to any retail business, while the Makeover Grant requires a co-contribution of 25% and enables up to $2000 of grant funds to be injected into a project.

Marketing and Economic Development Manager with Gwydir Shire Council, Chris Turner, says he hopes the business houses will take advantage of the offer to beautify the street appeal of their shopfront. “We want anyone who is eligible to consider an application. All retail businesses are urged to apply no matter if you are in a town centre or a store in a smaller area,” he said.

Anyone renting a building will be required to seek permission from the owner or have appropriate terms in their lease. “There is a limit to the number of grants we are able to give, so the process is competitive and applications will be assessed on merit, by a panel,” said Mr Turner. Successful applicants will be notified as soon as possible.

Funding for the Bushfire Community Resilience and Economic Recovery Fund (BCRERF) is provided through the joint disaster recovery funding arrangement between the NSW and Commonwealth Government with the aim of supporting local business and industry. Mr Turner is encouraging any eligible business to contact him on 0409 901 540 for further details or assistance with the application process.

Get in quickly as submissions must be received by the close of business on Friday 4th September.
