During 2012, many new activities and destinations have been accessed through the Gwydir Shire Visitor Information Centres at Warialda and Bingara.
‘This year has been a very busy year for Gwydir Shire Council staff and the many volunteers who meet visitors at our Centres’, said Deputy General Manager Leeah Daley, ‘without our passionate volunteers we would not be able to have the Centres doors open so often, particularly on weekends. We are very fortunate to have residents who, are not only passionate but are also such knowledgeable advocates for our Shire’.
Staff even go so far as to boast that whether holiday seekers are young or old, they are virtually guaranteed to find what they are looking for over the forthcoming Christmas/New Year break.
The explanation is simple. ‘Here, at Warialda and Bingara, we are part of a 175-strong network of Accredited Visitor Information Centres located in towns and cities throughout NSW’, explains Chris Moore, Gwydir Shire Council Tourist Officer.
‘We each keep a constant lookout for new holiday ideas and activities in our own backyards. Then, whenever, wherever we find something of interest, full details are distributed throughout the entire network. Not only that, but, over the past 12 months we have seen many new, exciting ideas and holiday deals coming to us which particularly focus on local attractions’, added Chris.
Gwydir Shire Council Tourist Officer, Jenny Mead added, ‘people should also remember that AVICs don’t just hand out holiday brochures and provide information on the local area, accommodation or attractions. We also provide a friendly smile and genuine interest in the customer’s journey whether it be a short or long stay in our Shire area’.
Many AVICs carry a range of touring maps, directories, and stock a range of souvenirs, craft items, local homemade specialty foods, toys and much, much more, the ideal spot to purchase something different for gifts for any occassion.
