‘Can do’ attitude gets the Sporting Club a new roof

November 1, 2016

Tired of strategically placed buckets to cope with leaks in the roof each time there is heavy rain, the Bingara Sporting Club board has ‘bitten the bullet’ and replaced the club’s roof.

Unfortunately the leakage was not accepted as storm damage by the Club’s insurers, so the replacement has had to be funded by the club itself.

The total cost of replacement, plus some associated works will be $70,000 when complete.

The Club borrowed money to do the work, and is now faced with the job of repaying the bank. The faster this can be done, the less interest the club will have to pay.

Former local contractor Gavin Galvin was awarded the contract and, with the help of some local tradespeople, have done a great job in replacing the roof.

The work took a little longer than expected due to the very wet season but the Board is very happy with the end result.

Around $24,000 has already been raised through contributions and fund-raising towards the roof replacement.

A Raise the Roof Fundraising day will be held on Saturday November 5 and all members, guests, and visitors are welcome. It is hoped that locals will come along and support this day, particularly those who utilise the club and its facilities.

The Club Board is encouraging not only regular members, but social members and associated groups such the Gwydir Fitness Centre and the Bingara Bullets players and supporters who both have formed successful partnerships with the Sporting Club in recent times.

There will be a number of activities on the day including:

  • 12.30pm 9 Holes of Golf – 3 Person Ambrose
  • 4.30pm 9 Ends of Bowls – Triples
  • 7.30pm 9 games of tennis – Doubles

A camp oven dinner will be available throughout the evening and for anyone not able to play sport this will be available for $15.00 a head.

The monster raffle will also be drawn with over $1500.00 worth of prizes to be won. There will also be entertainment during the evening.
