Caring for our Country Expression of Interest – Year 2

The Upper Gwydir Landcare Association has received Caring for our Country funding of $216,000.00 over three years. The project will target ‘Improved Management Techniques for the North West Slopes of NSW’. Within the project they will be offering training workshops, field days and on ground works funding.

They are currently seeking expressions of interest for Year 2 of the on ground works projects. Expressions of interest must be submitted in writing to the UGLA office by the 19TH August 2011. Funding for on ground works will also be offered in Year 3 of the project.

Year 2

Tree Planting

Funding will cover the cost of –

  • Supply of native tree or shrub seedlings
  • Stakes and cartons
  • Planting by a contractor  (must specify in your application, minimum 200 trees for contract plantings)
  • A maximum of 800 seedlings per property per year will be funded
  • Landholders will be responsible for site preparation, fencing and on going care & maintenance of seedlings
  • Seedlings to be planted by Autum 2012 

Riparian Fencing

  • A maximum of $5,000 per property per annum is available
  • We can fund a total of $20,000 per year of the project
  • Fencing to be constructed along waterways and/or gullies
  • Can be one of both sides of the waterway
  • Applicants to be assessed on a competitive basis, i.e. value for money.
  • You can apply in subsequent years for this funding as well.
  • Fencing to be completed by 30th June 2012. 

Demonstration Sites

  • Requirments are for two sites for each for the following –
  1. Use of Alternative Fertilizer, to be determined by the property owner/manager
  2. Perennial Pasture Establishment
  • Sites must be at least 20ha in size,
  • Sites must be willing to participate in soil testing, supply written case studies of the site and to host one field day on the demonstration site and to share the results of the proposed demonstration.
  • A maximum of $5,000 per site for one year only is available to the successful applicant.
  • Demonstration sites to be established this coming Autumn (2012) with proposed field days to be run in the Spring months. 
Soil Testing
  • UGLA is seeking 10 properties to conduct soil testing on in Year 2,
  • Soil tests will cover the base range of macro and micro elements covered in routine agricultural testing.
  • Soil tests will be conducted in 2011/ 2012 (weather pending). Prior to commencement of project
