CMCA presents The Lady and the Larrikan

October 10, 2008

With great excitement, Bingara is preparing to welcome the Motorhome Rally which is certainly one of the biggest events the town has hosted.

A cavalcade of performers are set to descend on the show grounds to provide nightly entertainment throughout the course of the Rally. One of the highlights to be enjoyed at the show grounds will undoubtedly be the performance by Liza Beamish and Lachlan Baker of "The Lady and the Larrikin." As a gift to the community of Bingara to thank the town and its people for its hospitality, the Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia is presenting a free concert at The Roxy Thursday October 16 at 7:00pm.

Liza Beamish and Lachlan Baker are accomplished performers in their own right. Together they create an extraordinary evening of entertainment with their beautiful voices and harmonies. The performance will include classic opera pieces, as well as much-loved popular favourites from well-known musicals.

Full shows can include hilarious impersonations of Tom Jones or Elvis, along with rib-tickling spoofs of Granada and The Lion Sleeps Tonight. Or leave you gasping with their spine-tingling rendition of an Andrew Lloyd Webber medley or the most memorable moments from opera.

Liza’s career highlights have included performing and understudying the role of Carlotta with the original cast of Phantom of the Opera in Melbourne; performing as a soloist with Opera Australia, Opera Queensland, and Ozopera (Opera Australia’s touring company); Touring England with a production of Magic Flute as the Queen of the Night; And performing the role of Zerlina in Mozart’s Don Giovanni in the Czech Republic.

Last year, Liza performed at one of the world’s largest music festivals in North Korea, where attendance is by invitation only. She was one of a handful of the performers who received a trophy at the event, and was asked to participate in the prestigious "Selected Concert", which was televised nationally (in Korea).

Liza is currently living in the Tweed Coast area of Northern New South Wales, where she has found herself to be much in demand as a soloist all along the Eastern coast of Australia. The venues in which she now performs range from clubs, entertainment venues and hotels such as Pallazo Versace to huge open air events e.g. "Opera in the Park" at Broadbeach to an audience of 10,000. She is a frequent soloist with a number of orchestras including Gold Coast Symphony Orchestra, Northern Rivers Symphony Orchestra and Queensland Pops Orchestra.

In June ’08 Liza toured the performing arts centres of Queensland with tenor Lachlan Baker receiving standing ovations everywhere they went.

Lachlan’s career highlights include singing at the great hall at Canberra; performing Jean Valjean in Les Miserables at the Gold Coast Arts centre; supporting Julie Anthony in her one woman show and performing in the cast of Simon Gallaher’s production of "The Merry Widow" at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre in Brisbane. He was an instant hit impersonating Pavarotti in Channel 9’s Starstruck – making it all the way to the finals.

Lachlan’s singing engagements have taken him to many parts of the globe including USA, Germany, Japan, Malaysia and Taiwan and to every state and territory in Australia.

Lachlan now lives and performs on the Gold Coast where he can be regularly seen at prestigious venues such as Palazzo Versace, Sheraton Mirage, Royal Pines resort, Gold Coast Convention Centre and Conrad Jupiter’s.

He has performed many times in front of audiences larger than 10,000 at outdoor venues such as Kurrawa Park Broadbeach, and Paradise Point.

Don’t miss this magical evening at The Roxy on Thursday October 16, at 7:00pm. Admission to this spectacular event is free. All enquires to Sandy McNaughton mob: 0427 241 582.
