Come, Walk the Walk, before we Talk the Talk with leading Futurist!

September 29, 2009

On the evening of Thursday, October 8, Bingara and District VISION 20/20 with the support of Gwydir Shire Council staff members will conduct a “discovery” walk along Maitland Street, from Lowe’s Garage at the corner of Heber Street north to the Riverbank.

The walk will commence at 5:45pm and conclude, with a BBQ and refreshments beside the Gwydir at 7:30pm. Daylight savings time will have begun so the walk will be a pleasant evening stroll, and all are invited.

Along the walk the first stop will be made at the Roxy Restaurant where an inspection of the newly completed renovations to the Kitchen Area will be available. From there, on to Adam’s Garage for discussion of the plans for that site, and an up-date on some exciting and necessary work on the Maitland Street Awnings.

Next will be a stop at the Court House, to see the new Library section and the wheelchair access renovations.

At the Bingara Museum, the Historical Society members will outline the Regional Conference they are hosting in Bingara in March 2010.

Finally, at the Riverscape site, an explanation of the Hall’s Creek work and the further prospects for the landscaped Riverscape at the northern end of Maitland Street, will complete the walk.

H.Fay & Sons and the Imperial Hotel will then provide a BBQ and refreshments by the Gwydir where the “walkers” are free to discuss any of the sites and plans seen along the way.

One of the reasons for the Walk will be to introduce and raise interest for an exciting 2010 event.

VISION 20/20 and GSC will be co-hosting the “Our Place – Country Town Living 2025” Forum on the 24th and 25th of February, 2010. This will be a regional forum intended to explore the changes that are possible and likely to impact on country towns during the next 15 years.

Prominent scientist and futurist Dr Peter Ellyard is being sought to head up a broad range of quality presenters at the Forum. The future prospects for agriculture, transport, business, water and energy, as well as our changing population patterns, will be discussed at the Forum. More details and the Program outline will be made available in the next few weeks.
