Congratulations Gwydir Shire Council on the sealing of the Bingara to Narrabri Road.

July 16, 2009

After many years of waiting, the Bingara to Narrabri Road is completely sealed. Congratulations to GSC who, along with Narrabri Shire Council have completed this wonderful task.

“To the current GSC Councillors, GM Max Eastcott, and especially to the GSC staff, on behalf of Bingara and District VISION 20/20 I extend my congratulations on an excellent road.” Said President, Rick Hutton.

“It is a testament to the persistence and vision of those who saw the possibilities of this road. Former Councillor’s Charlie Quelch, and Mark Coulton made
early and later overtures respectively to progress this project.” He said.

With the completed sealing, this road becomes part of the shortest sealed route between Melbourne and Brisbane, approximately 45 km less than the Newell Highway. Add to that the scenic beauty of the drive across Killarney Gap, effectively slicing through the centre of the 20 million year old Nandewar Volcano, and the route promises a tourist and commercial bonanza to Gwydir Shire and especially to the towns of Warialda and Bingara.

“What is needed now is some up-selling of the route. Some signs at each end of the way highlighting the Narrabri-Bingara-Warialda-Coolatai-Yetman option would be handy, AND it needs a special tourist focused name just like the Fossickers Way, Bushranger Way or Waterfall Way.” Rick added.

“The sealing has taken a long time, let us not now have to wait too long to put the icing on the cake. I implore GSC to keep going while the tar is hot and make this route one of Australia’s great motoring attractions.” He concluded.
