An Open Forum called “DISCOVER GWYDIR”,will be held at the Roxy Theatre in Bingara, on the evening of Thursday, February 19, 2009.
Its purpose will be to explore a range of tourism and educational opportunities to further enhance the attractions of the Gwydir Shire in northern NSW.
Bingara and District VISION 20/20 and Gwydir Shire Council invite all interested people to attend and to contribute.
Starting at 7:00pm, the Forum will hear some examples of “discovery tourism” that have been developed by National Parks and Wildlife within the New England NW Region by Rebecca Smith, and about “Romancing the Rocks” from Bob Brown, Senior Geologist, DPI Armidale.
The meeting will then participate in a community think tank, to provide feedback on the opportunities highlighted by our speakers, and to explore how these can be integrated with our other Gwydir Shire attractions and opportunities.
Examples of related opportunities might include a wide range of eco-tourism and educational activities; the restoration of original homesteads; exploring the potential of Cunningham’s Trail; better integrating our museums and collections; identifying and mapping indigenous relics; looking at the potential for further fossicking; coordinating with Jackaroo/Jillaroo holidays; promotion of bird watching routes; integrating a wider range of river adventures; opening off-road trails; expanding hunting and fishing …and many more.
With international tourism likely to decline this year, what better timing than now, to explore what Gwydir Shire has to offer and co-ordinate the activities under the theme of “DISCOVER GWYDIR”
