Eggstreme generosity shown by Tamworth producer

Major Tamworth egg producer, Bede Burke, has answered Council Special Events Committee’s call for egg donations by very generously donating all of the 200 eggs required for Bingara’s Australia Day community breakfast.

Mr. Burke is the largest egg producer in the North West, with hens producing about 80,000 eggs daily on his family run property.

“Bede has assured us that his eggs will be of eggceptional quality and freshness,” Council staff member, Tracey Carr, said.

In Bingara, Australia Day, Thursday, January 26, kicks off at the Bingara Museum at 8.00am with a barbecue provided by the Bingara Lions, followed by the official proceedings at 9.00am.

Local talent Jamie Wilson will be on hand to keep everyone entertained during breakfast.

This year sees a new, local MC to oversee proceedings. In recent years, John Wearne has filled that role, and before that, Rick Hutton.

A Special events committee spokesperson declined to name the new MC, but said the committee’s choice was local, talented, amusing, and the people attending the ceremony would not be disappointed.

Each year, citizenship awards are presented in three categories. Young Citizen of the Year, Citizen of the Year and Community Event of the Year.

“We had a lot of nominations and it was very difficult for the judges to choose so don’t miss out on seeing the winners announced,” the spokesperson said.

Bingara’s Australia Day Ambassador for 2012 is Mike Bailey. Not only is Mike a well respected weather presenter, he has ties to the local community as his wife is a cousin of Mayor John Coulton.

Mike is looking forward to attending the planned events and catching up with his relatives.

The Bingara Sporting Club has an evening of sporting events planned, with golf, bowls, and tennis sections organising events.

Australia Day is a holiday to celebrate who we are, remember our past and be thankful for the wonderful country and opportunities we have. Make the most of it!

Come to the celebration, plan a barbecue, have a family afternoon at the pool.

Plan something unique and memorable and make sure you remember this Australia Day as more than just a day off work.
