Ekka champion purchased by local buyer

Kildare’s Annual South Devon and Shorthorn Bull Sale last Friday week saw a good number of buyers from the Hunter Valley, Moree, Bingara, Walcha and Glen Innes.
The top price of $9000 was paid for Kildare Carlos, who recently won South Devon Champion at this year’s Brisbane Exhibition.

The purchaser was local cattleman and regular buyer at Kildare, Ian Anderson. Kildare Carlos at 24 months, 133 EMA and 1024kg was very active and sound for his weight.  Mr. Anderson’s reasons for purchasing Carlos were for herd improvement and personal achievement.

The losing bidders were Michael and Jenny Hamilton of Foxground on the South Coast, who secured Kildare Challenger for $4000.

The South Devons, prepared without grain, averaged over 800kg, 120 EMA and 8 months fat.

In front of a good crowd, worries with the weather and cattle prices subdued a clearance of 70% which was, still quite pleasing.

Volume buyer was Ted Hammond and family from Walcha with five bulls to $3000 three times. Heaviest South Devon at 1100kg, 26 months and 134 EMA, went to Charles Green, a long time return buyer to Kildare. Kildare Commander, Lot 4 went to Peter Houlahan of Moree.Others went to the Hunter Valley and Glen Innes.

The top black South Devon, a very thick high Genestar Bull (810kgs), went to Ian Anderson for $4,500. The sale average was $3,500 and 21 bulls sold.
