ENRAC looking at local conditions

October 17, 2008

Officers from the Environmental and Natural Resources Advisory Committee (ENRAC) will be coming through Warialda and Bingara districts tomorrow (Wednesday) following the government’s decision to reconsider this area’s removal from Exceptional Circumstances funding.

"They will be speaking with farmers and stakeholders who will put their argument as to why EC should have been extended in this area," Don Mack, Chairman of the NSW Farmers Barraba District Council, said.

"I hope they will make the correct decision after the absurd decision to not roll the North West and Central area over," Mr. Mack said.

ENRAC will then report to the Federal Primary Industry Minister, Tony Burke, for a decision.

Mr. Mack said he was not sure when farmers could expect to hear of the decision. "Hopefully we should hear in a reasonable amount of time, to take pressure off the producers who have been left in the lurch," he said.
