Even scoreboard for Missiles and Uralla

May 5, 2009

Last Saturday week’s crowd saw the Missiles take on Uralla in a friendly challenge which turned into an exciting game.

The girls were well prepared for the match and ready to take on a team which they thought would be an easy take out. With many players, Uralla shocked the girls and after Uralla scored the first two tries for the day, the girls did not back down but rose to the occasion, quickly scoring two convincingly, wonderful tries.

Half time saw even scoreboards but the girls wanted more than just a draw. They aimed to show Uralla what the Missiles really had behind them.

To start the second half the Missiles sped through with three worked for tries, giving the girls a lead of 5 tries to 2. This gave the girls high heads, although Uralla did not back down as they caught the girls off guard for yet another 3 quick tries, putting the girls yet again on even scoreboards.

Uralla once again broke through with a final try but the Missiles would not have it and easily brought the board back to an even score. The last 3 minutes saw the Missiles in strong defence as they shut down Uralla’s attack and stood for a 6 – 6 draw.

Tries were scored by Kiarnah Walton (2), Kelly Welsh, Hannah O"Rourke, Jessica Heal and Bree Craddock. Highest taggers for the day with 8 tags went to Jessica Heal, Hannah O’Rourke, Maria Coote and Kelly Welsh.

Ref’s points went to Maria Coote (3), Kiarnah Walton (2), and Ally Holland-Wright (1). Supporters Points went to Danielle Riley for her outstanding efforts and tagging!

The girls had an awesome game and look forward to taking on Glen Innes in next week’s match.

Please support the girls in their Mothers’ Day raffle which will be drawn at the RSL on Friday, May 8. Training for the girls will now be Tuesday and Friday nights from 5.30pm.
